Writing comments in HTML

HTML Comments

You can choose to enter comments in either plain text or HTML by clicking on the HTML mode enabled checkbox. If you know HTML (HyperText Markup Language - the language of the web) you can click this button and enter HTML tags directy into your comments. If you don't know what HTML is, just leave this button unclicked and enter your text directly into the box - you can also cut and paste it directly from most word processors or e-mail programs if you already have some information about your boat on hand.

If you don't know aything about HTML, but would like to learn it and try to spruce up your listing a bit - take a look at this good basic tutorial.

To get you started, here are some quick tips. HTML ignores things like returns and tabs, so don't expect to format your text this way. You format text using tags, like this <tag> text to mark up </tag> Some of the more common tags that you can use are:

< i > text < /i > - produces italics

< b > text < /b > - produces bold text

< p > text < /p > - breaks enclosed text into a separate paragraph

< h1 > heading < /h1 > - produces large type headings (H2,H3, etc produce different size headings)

< br > - gives a line break, similar to a carriage return

< hr > - draws a horizontal line

These simple tags should enable you to add some formatting to your comments and help you to make your listing stand out. You may have to experiment a bit and edit and view your listing a number of times, but there is no charge for this. One last hint - you can produce your marked up comments offline with a text editor like notepad, or special HTML editor (many available at Tucows) and then you can just cut and paste them into the comments section of the listing form.
