I always raise the mast prior to launch. However, the Hunter 240 has braces that maintain the mast perpendicular to the deck. (I formally had a Catalina 22, and raising the mast on that boat while underway was out of the question.) As long as the conditions are calm and no large boat wakes are present for the two minutes the mast is either not in its cradle or supported by the stays, I would do it if required.

: I have a place in Cape Coral Florida that is on a salt water canal with boat dock and lift. Problem is to get to the gulf I have to pass under a bridge that is about 15 foot. Would it be possible to have a trailerable sailboat such that I could lower the mast to get to my house but yet raise it once I'm past the bridge? Is this something that can be done while you're in the water or does the boat have to be on the trailer. ????
