What's a JPEG or a GIF? They are file formats for effectively compressing digital image data for transport across a network. For the curious - JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, and GIF is Graphical interchange format.

Where are they used? JPEG's are usually used to digitize photographs, and GIF's are often drawings, or clipart. We at The Sailboat Market recommend that photo's be put in JPEG format for effective posting.

How Do I make a JPEG? If you have a digital camera and the software that comes with it, they often output JPEG photo's directly. For those of us with traditional photographs, you will need to scan them using a digital scanner. Many people have inexpensive personal scanners that can be used. If you don't have access to one of these units, try your local photography shop. They will almost always be able to help you out for a couple of dollars.

My Pictures are too big/small, how can I edit them? Go to www.tucows.com and download some free graphic software. There are numerous free/demo/cheap software packages that can do basic graphic file manipulation available there. You should be able to resize, and even retouch your images without too much trouble.

Help, I'm confused - I want to sell a boat, not become a graphic designer! Don't worry, we are willing to scan your photographs for you. To get this done, just send the pictures and your listing number to our address. Include a short description of each picture, so that we can properly caption your photo's when we post them.
